Jakarta,
June 4, 2013 – Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta proudly presents "Moeka
Djakarta" photographic exhibition, displaying different corners in Jakarta
city done by talented youngsters; Nicholas Hilman, Nicholas Raditya Santoso and
William Tan. The photos will be displayed at the lobby area from the 17th of
May to the 28th of June 2013.
Nicholas
Hilman, Nicholas Raditya Santoso, and William Tan are three aspiring high
school seniors attending Sekolah Pelita Harapan, who are driven by passion for
photography, design and their city. Aiming to inspire young people in Indonesia
to dream and achieve greater things, as well as to raise public awareness of
the current state of the nation’s capital, these three young photographers
undertook what was seen as unlikely by many and created their very own photographic
testament of Jakarta. They transfigured what began as a school assignment into
a published work of art, Moeka Djakarta.
Taking
advantage of the youthful and raw minds, this talented trio has explored
Jakarta with an unfiltered perspective. They have captured the essence of the
city, from the lowly slums to the contemporary culture of Jakarta. An
assignment that had started as a personal project has escalated into this
passion driven, innovative piece of art that represents Jakarta in both the
past and present tense. All these are beautifully compiled in a coffee table
book entitled ‘Moeka Djakarta’ - means The Face of Jakarta in Bahasa Indonesia
spelling. The curator of these interesting photos is the renowned photographer
Martin Westlake.
The
ceremonial celebration of Moeka Djakarta exhibition was successfully held on
Tuesday, 4 June 2013 at Pool Verandah of Four Seasons Jakarta. Art and cultural
performances included Batavian traditional dances and Tanjidor live music
commemorating Jakarta city’s 486th anniversary. The celebration also
marks the launch of Moeka Djakarta Book, which are now available for sale at
the hotel’s Gift Shop and selected bookstore throughout Jakarta. The evening was
officiated by Mrs. Tinia Budiati, Vice Director of Jakarta City Government
Tourism And Culture Office representing H.E. Governor of Jakarta Special
Province, Mr. Joko Widodo.
