June 18, 2013 – Today TNT Express Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Trans
Retail Indonesia (Carrefour) and in conjunction of World Environment Day,
planted its first fruit tree to symbolize the commencement of a 500

students, staff and management of TNT Express Indonesia and management of PT

TNT
Express Indonesia Managing Director Tomy Sofhian is aware of the public raising
concerns on climate change. For that reason, TNT Express Indonesia has taken
its initiative toward environmental issues that relate to the company’s
business core. “As an international express services company, our daily routine
relates to carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, and the tree-planting program is how
we play our role in the emission reduction.”
He
furthermore explained that global warming has been threatening all societies
across the globe. “It is time to inculcate in our young generation about the
importance of tackling the environmental issues. Through fruit tree-planting
program, our children can learn more about the benefits of growing their own
fruits and how the program can help preserve the environment.”
The
tree-planting partnership program will be conducted at primary schools under
Carrefour Indonesia’s One-Store-One-School (OSOS) program. Types of fruit trees
donated include orange, mango and other tropical fruits. Carrefour Indonesia
has since 2007 implemented OSOS program with the objective of supporting the
needs of education in Indonesia. “Each of 82 Carrefour’s outlets across the
country is the patron of at least one primary school in the surrounding area,
in which Carrefour operates. There are 12 schools in the Jakarta and Greater
area will be participated at this tree-planting program,” RM. Adji Srihandoyo,
Corporate Affairs Director PT Trans Retail Indonesia, explained adding, “The
program is indeed a significant means of educating our children about the
importance of environmental preservation, and we are glad to have collaborated
with TNT Express Indonesia as the partner company of the program.”
TNT
Express worldwide includes environment as one of the four pillars of the
corporate social responsibility. The other three relate to the aspects of
customer, employee and social. With the environmental issues, TNT Express has
set the target to reduce up to 40 percent of the use of C02 in the business
operation globally by the year 2020. In Indonesia, TNT Express Indonesia is
currently aiming to reduce one percent from the amount of C02 used in the
previous year.
“We
see environment as a very crucial issue, especially in the wake of today’s
growing threat of climate change, in which the C02 emitted through human activities
has become big concerns and drawn much attention from all corners of the
world,”Eko Pramudito, TNT Express Indonesia, Human Resource, HSE & CSR
Director concluded.
